AEDs are a great device to have on hand in case of a medical emergency. However, after getting an AED, you should put it where it will be most effective. If it is somewhere hidden or in a place that is not easy to access, it will increase the amount of time it takes to provide life-saving medical intervention. When you get an AED, you will want to ensure that you put it in a great location so that it can be used the most effectively. If you are looking to get an AED, browse our selection or consult our Buyer’s Guide to find the best AED that will suit your needs.
Find the Best Location
No matter where your AED is, it should be in a highly visible location. Avoid placing it in corners or other places where it is difficult to locate. It should also be at a reasonable height and not so high that it is difficult to reach. The location should also be easy to locate and clear of any obstructions or obstacles. For example, if someone asks where an AED is located, it is easier to say that it is at the front desk or by an elevator than to give convoluted instructions to an unclear location. Also, make sure to place it in a central location so that a person does not have to cross the entire area and back when an AED needs to be used.
Ensure Fast DeploymentÂ
If you have someone at your location that is trained on how to use an AED, it can be beneficial to have it located near them so that they have fast and easy access to the AED. Timing is everything in the case of sudden cardiac arrest, and the faster it can be used the higher the chances of survival. If you do not have someone who knows how to use an AED at your location, consider getting one that offers step-by-step instructions to ensure the highest chance of success. If your location is large and has lots of space, consider getting more than one and spreading them throughout the building for quick access in case of an emergency.
