Which Type of Philips HeartStart Pads & Batteries Do I Need?

America trusts the Philips HeartStart AEDs to protect lives.  These distinctive AEDs should give consumers & businesses confidence because these life-saving devices are both reliable and easy-to-use.

However, it’s most important that you check your AEDs at least monthly, document the results and maintain the pads & batteries over time.

Your electrode pads for HeartStart AEDs should be replaced every 2-years even if you don’t use the AED for rescue.  If you’re curious why it’s because the sticky gel tends in the electrode pads tends to dry out and thus they have a 2-year expiration date.

Beyond the pads, the batteries need to be replaced about every 4-years.  If you’re curious why, it’s because a small amount of battery energy is depleted every day when the AED device does a self check.

It is very important to note that there are about 4 primary Philips HeartStart AED types and to add the device type confusion they all have a red & white carrying case.
